President and CEO of The Aroostook Medical Center (TAMC) Sylvia Getman is from Wisconsin, and as her father was in the Army, travelled around a lot when she was young. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has a long history of volunteerism and commitment to community organizations, especially in the area of healthcare advocacy and economic development.

Prior to coming to Maine, she was the President and CEO of Nantucket Cottage Hospital. She also served as Chief Executive Officer of Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage, Iowa and as a Vice President for Network Systems for Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa. While in Iowa, Getman was the Project Director for the EHR10 Electronic Health Record Project for Mercy Medical Center and eight rural hospitals.

Since August 2010, Getman has served as President and CEO of The Aroostook Medical Center (TAMC), Maine’s 25th largest employer.  She also serves as Senior Vice President of Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems (EMHS).  Getman and Stevoe discussed her approach at TAMC, with partnering the business-side of hospital administration with the clinical-side.

She is a board member of the Maine Hospital Association, serves on the Maine Hospital Association Policy Committee, is Vice Chair of Aroostook Partnership for Progress, and is a Workforce Investment board member. She is also a member of the Presque Isle Rotary Club, University of Maine Foundation, serves as an alternate for the American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board and is one of 20 2013/2014 AHA Healthcare Transformation Fellows.

The Aroostook Medical Center (TAMC), located in Presque Isle, is a not-for-profit organization and is the leading provider of healthcare services in Northern Maine. With over 60 physicians and a team of over 1000 employees, TAMC is an advanced rural hospital, with healthcare services ranging from cancer care, cardiology, dialysis, sleep medicine, imaging, emergency response, and orthopedics services.
